Little egrets at Spurn Head

Last Saturday (before the rains started!) I had a great day out at Spurn. First sight on arrival, even before getting out of the car: a pair of little egrets flying over the marsh on the Humber side. Has anybody seen them there before?

Whilst I have not seen them at Spurn before, they are clearly spreading and I almost always see them on trips to various spots on the Lancashire coast these days.

They're becoming more & more common on the other side of the Humber too .. they can be seen regularly from Cleethorpes sea front & at Humberston Fitties or in the salt marshes down towards the RAF Bombing Range at Donna Nook ..

When I first moved up here (5 years ago in Nov) I couldn't believe how excited local Birders got at seeing them .. where I'd moved from (SE.England) they were commonplace ...

There have also been reliable reports of a Great White Egret at Humberston .. though I've not seen it myself .. Yet ...
