Goldcrest and Firecest

We've been re-organising the Bird Galleries, separating the Buntings and Warblers into their own categories.

Whilst doing this I've noticed we've only got ONE Goldcrest image, and NO Firecest images. So there's a task for us, get out there we need some more!

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

I know where there are both in abundance and I spent more than a few hours trying to get some images of them. Can Stuart add another gallery for empty branches please?

That's not good enough Alan. I know for a fact there were Firecests in Lincolnshire last year, Whisby had them. Mind you I spent four days looking for them and as Kev said, saw plenty of empty branches..

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

you're being too modest Graham, you should have mentioned that you have the only Goldcrest shot in the gallery! I seem to remember an impressive close-up from your kitchen window!

I've had the occasional Goldcrest in my garden but found it utterly impossible to get a shot of them (yep, plenty of empty branches!). I don't think I've ever seen a Firecrest, so it would be nice to get one in the gallery.

Come on Kev, if anyone can do it you can!

Matt

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

I've just dug out and uploaded a couple of photos of Goldcrests. I get them visiting the garden in winter.

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

I know where there are Goldcrests, and I did get a couple of pictures the other week but unfortunately not good enough for the gallery. I am on holiday next week and shall make it my task to get some good enough for the gallery.

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

The goldcrests nest in the gardens of heligan and fly around as if they were hummingbirds!

Cornwall is a bit far for me, at least for a day trip! I like Heligan though, and especially nearby Mevagissey which I adore! Next time I'm there, I'm out to get the Goldcrests!

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

If Cornwall is too far, Glsammy, try Ardnamurchan. That is where I have seen the greatest number.

Re: Goldcrest and Firecest

Ive got a fire crest shot I took at garten last year - its not very good though as I was shooting hand held with the little bigma and 2xTC - i'll look it out and upload it , you can always delete it if its not up to snuff.
