| | | Have you ever seen a white moorhen? I went to Lakeland Wild Animal yesterday and there was a WHITE moorhen. It had a normal coloured chick with another normal moorhen!
I have never seen this before!

| | | Re: Have you ever seen a white moorhen? They are not albino's as they don't have the pink eyes, but I believe they are known as Leucistic, which is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation and albinism, it is caused by a reduction in all types of skin pigments.

| | | Re: Have you ever seen a white moorhen? Hi all ..
There was an article on this very subject in Birdwatching Magazine a couple of months ago (I'll see if I can find it) ..
The article said that Leucistic Moorhens seemed particularly common in the Peterborough area, that lots had been seen .. though they didn't speculate as to why this should be so ..
Bye for now ..

| | | Re: Have you ever seen a white moorhen? There used to be a pair of white coots at Farlington Marshes in Hants. Very strange, made you look twice.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Have you ever seen a white moorhen? I saw this little chap at Slimbridge last February, probably the same as you've seen Pam and Stephen? Although not completely white it was a nice looking bird, and stood out like a sore thumb amongst the usual Moorhens.
