Raptor in garage!

Can someone confirm the identity of the magnificent bird I found this morning in my garage, please? I was surprised / excited , goodness knows how it found it's way in through my back door but presumably it had been chasing young Housemartins!! I think it was a female Sparrowhawk, quite large and fairly dark. It had a white stripe over the eye and the eye rim was bright yellow, yellow legs. I have checked in a couple of ident books but it looked quite different to any description or picture as it was sitting on a battery charger and then hopped onto my husband's motorbike!!!! I have some photos but am not sure if I can add them on this site.

You can put images up, just whack them on photobucket and link from there...
It'd be nice to see this bird, sounds interesting....

Hum hum,.. out side links to photos will be removed..Try to up load them to the WAB image library-Archive.

Hi Kate and welcome to WAB.

From your description it's mostly likely a female Sparrowhawk. Dark grey upperparts and white with dark bars below. Nice long yellow legs and yellow eyes. Once they have their food they don't seem too bothered by people getting close, but I'd have thought a battery charger is not a normal perch for them!

I've tried to upload picture in Image Archive, unsuccessfully. Can you explain in simple terms, please!!

I wish I had caught the confused look on my dog's face as (if I can get the picture, you will see) this bird was by her bed!!

Hi Kate, you will have to resize the pics from your computer then up load them into archive

Jason, thanks for the offer but I can't receive your PM (pop up blocker I believe) I will try again but 'upload them into archive' sounds easier than I am finding it.

Kate: don't worry, at the top of the page on the right below the Events tab it should say 'Your notifications'. Click this and it should say 'Unread Private Messages: 1'. It should then open in the same window, bypassing the pop-up blocker.
