| | Unknown bird in may garden Hi
I have just joined Wild about Britain as I've just had a bird in my garden I didn't recognise - can anyone help?
It sat at the top of my tree for about 5 minutes. It was probably a little larger than a blackbrid, but with a beak probably over an inch long. What was so fascinating was its light brown head and then a black breast. Couldn't see if its back was black as well - would guess so. Didn't manage to get a good photo of it unfortunately.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Catinwaiting
PS - really like the website and will be visiting often. |

| | | Re: Unknown bird in may garden Well I can't be sure due to the size you mentioned, but sizing up a bird can be tough. I'm going to go with juvenile starling going into adult plumage. They have brown heads, and all the juvies I've seen lately have the black body as well. Hope this helps you! |

Thanks - that could well be right as there was a sudden influx of starlies earlier in the day for a few minutes. |

Welcome to WAB | Commander!
Thanks - as replied to Dae, I think you're right as a flock of starlings had descended earlier in the day for a few minutes.
If i can get the picture uploaded (not particularly techie you might have guessed!) I'll send it to you via email. Thanks very much for your help. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
