| | | Gold Finch Young Hello,
My name is Chris and I live in Waterlooville Hampshire.
My family and I have been watching several Gold Finches visiting our garden.
We still have two Gold Finch chicks that were left behind when the adults took flight. They have settled down in a small bush in the garden. This is not very far from ground level and we are worried that they may not survive the night due to predators. Can anyone please advise on the best way to help these chicks?
Thanks.
Chris. |

| | | Re: Gold Finch Young This may sound harsh but please leave them alone. nature will take it's course. If they live then great ,2 more Goldfinches, if not then whatever takes them will benefit. This is how things work in the natural world, and in my opinion humans should not interfere

The best thing is to leave them alone. There's a very good chance the parent birds will come back. |

| | | Re: Gold Finch Young Hello Chris. Know Waterlooville well as we've got an Aunty and cousins who live there. A warm welcome to WAB.
As stated above, leave alone and let nature do what it's going to do. If there are any cats around, I'd shoo them away because they aren't really part of the natural circle, not in this country anyway.
We've had two lots of baby goldfinches in our garden recently, and the parents do fly off now and then but if you watch, they are probably more than capable of foraging around for little seeds without the adult birds.
Anyway, that said, it's great to have you onboard. WW
