| | | Re: Which birds nest at this time of year ? I was camping in Rhosneigr only 2 1/2 weeks ago and there was a sand martin colony there on the beach. I assume it had young in as we could see little heads near the holes and the martins were flying in and out. It didn't seem a brilliant place to have a colony as it was right on the beach and not very high up.

| | | Re: Which birds nest at this time of year ? Up to a couple of weeks ago 'tatty tail' the blackbird was still taking worms to the nest and you could hear the babies in the hedge. The baby wrens fledged at the beginning of August, the thrush had another lot of babies, a nest was found with eggs in, and at least 2 other lots of babies could be heard twittering in the nest.......I thought it kinda late for birds to still have babies. |

| | | Re: Which birds nest at this time of year ? We currently have sitting woodpigeons and moorhens that have only just hatched out recently. Saw some very young mallard ducklings last week too.
Many species will carry on breeding if there is food available and the weather clement. |

Currently have a pair of collared doves in the tree outside our window which has just started incubating an egg, and back in January I found a big plump Wood Pigeon chick sitting on a nest in a fir tree on my local golf course, it wasnt even feathered - still downy, so they definitely breed in Cambridgeshire all year round (well at least one pair did!) |

| | | Re: Which birds nest at this time of year ? We now have a couple of wood pigeons building a nest in a tree which hangs over our garden.
Fascinating to watch the male fly back and forward with twigs. He seems to pass them to the female so I assume she builds the nest ?
They have been at it all day but don't seem to be getting very far. I can't really see as it is quite high up but no significant signs of a nest yet.
How long does it usualy take them to build their nest ? |
