I have posted a watercolour painted by my wife from a snap of a grey heron I took last week at Fen Drayton. Someone asked me if I had posted the photo - well, here it is amongst others.
We were on the last leg of a pretty epic trip with lots of finches, tree creepers, another heron with a flatfish; and my guv'nor stopped to pick some more blackberries.
I thought that I would sneak along the ditch behind the blackberry bushes and see what was on the lake. As I crept (obviously not quietly enough) around the final bush, this grey heron erupted from the lakeside and flew away from me
We packed up and went towards the village and bus stop. I know where all the gaps in the hedge are and saw that the heron had alighted on top of a post on the edge of the lake
This is the subject of the watercolour.....
