Identify wader (no photo)

Hi,

While fishising from the rocks at the weekend I saw a very small wader fly across me. He was quite small no bigger than a starling even smaller. The thing that stood out for me was that he flew very low across the water and in flight seemed to flap it's wings two or three times pause for a second and then flap again. I'm thinking it was a common sandpiper but i was wondering if the flight pattern is something they do. If not any other suggestions? I saw it fly by 2 or 3 times and it was always a solitary bird.

From your description, my first thought was common sandpiper too. The flight you described sounds right anyway.

Agree it sounds like the jizz of a Common Sandpiper; quite a few of these + Green Sandpipers moving through now.

Could be Little Stint or Ringed Plover too.
