Kestrel

Although we have occasionally seen a Kestrel hunting over the grassland in our area, we have seen one over the last few days possibly more permanent. yesterday a.m. it was sitting on temporary fencing poles watching gulls and pigeons feeding on the playing fields. In the afternoon it was in the woods atop a dead tree calling.
Would the calling be establishing its presence, calling a mate or what?
Am I right that we are going to have a new neighbour

At this time of year young birds are moving out of their home areas and looking for their own territories, so if your area is suitable, it could well stay.

Thanks. My OH said there were 3 today hunting the rough grass so I guess there are 2 parents somewhere saying phew!
