| | | Need Help please Baby Sparrow Baby Sparrow fell down from the roof. Have phone RSPA they have said leave it where it fell. Not an option many cats around. It has nearly full feather coverage. It's tail feathers are not fully developed. Have been feeding it pureed cat food by syringe. However its fecal sacs are loose so I guess that this is not probably the correct diet. What is the correct way to introduce fluids to a baby bird. Many thanks. |

| | | Re: Need Help please Baby Sparrow Well done for having helped it
If it is nearly fully-feathered then it will be fairly independant by now. As far as feeding, it will get liquids from it's normal food - giving it liquids could choke it. Pureed cat food syringed is a good idea.
As far as where to leave it - place it on a high-up surface - a feeding station would be OK or somewhere a cat won't get it. This will allow the parent sparrows to feed it. They will be looking for it. If they don't find it then continue to feed it until it's ready to go.
Keep us updated!
Take care,

| | | Re: Need Help please Baby Sparrow Normal cat food will give the baby the runs, far better to saok go cat in boiling water, cool till like little sponges then break off tiny bits and feed with tweezers.
No seperate water needed. |

| | | Re: Need Help please Baby Sparrow Contact your local vet surgery or try at a pet shop for a dried food that can be fed to cage birds. It is a dried egg type food and mix with water (but not runny) then feed to bird a little a time. We raised a blackbird at work this way and it is now living happily in my garden among the fruit bushes. |

I'm so sorry, you did all you could. You shared precious time with this poor bird and he didn't die alone, but in the hands of someone who cared. That counts for a lot.
Stick with the forum though, if you want |

| | | Re: Need Help please Baby Sparrow You did all you could. It is very difficult especially when some organisations are less than helpful!!
If you let me know exactly where you live (pm if you prefer) I can look on our database to see where your nearest wildlife rescue is situated so you have a contact to hand for next time. Alternatively, give us a ring & we will do our best to advise.

keeps going thru my mind | No, absolutely not. 'What ifs' are natural, but honestly Jessie, you did everything possible. Well done. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
