5-6 foot would be enough, the landscape around my in-laws are dotted with these man-made platforms for them. Its considered very good luck if they choose your's to nest on.

Red flanked Bluetail would an interesting an colourful addition and they're slowly spreading westwards so you never know.

I was going to say storks! I'd love to have them over here and often wonder why they don't make that leap across the relatively small stretch of water between here and the Netherlands.

Saw my first Great Northern on Skye last October. Fabulous bird and a real coup for me as it was the Great Northern that got me into ornithology through Dick's adventures in the same-named Arthur Ransome book

Bower birds, they look lovely and are excellent mimics, I love the bowers they make aswell
