| | | 3 from the garden yesterday.. Hi all,
Had a second go at getting a reasonable Nuthatch picture, during which lots of other activity happening in the garden!
Does the nuthatch look young? no idea with these, there is a pair that I believe to be setting up a territory here but the colouring on them is pretty drab compared to some I've seen.
Also - robin - young from this year or a tatty adult? We do have some just fledged with no colour at all but this one confuses me.
The thrush is one of a pair of young hanging around here at moment, really praying they make it, few enough of them already and they seem very vulnerable - although this one is really alert and can fly well.
Hope you like.. |

Yes, the NH seems dull-ish; female or juv I think. The hair looks a little wet or matted between the legs and undertail as well.
Very good images!!

Tracey.A posted on here a while back that the juv robins go through partial moult at 6-7 weeks, and get their adult red-breast by winter. So my guess is tatty adult. |

So my guess is tatty adult. | The more I look at the robin photo the more I think it is a juvenile. I think I might have been premature in saying that the juvenile gets its adult coat by winter. This robin looks darker on its belly, and the eye doesn't look like a proper adult, also it seems to have a lot of feathers that are moulting. Looks like late summer/Autumn is the time that they get their adult coat - sorry!
The nuthatch photo is beautiful! I had a song thrush nesting earlier this year, sadly it's eggs were predated by either a grey squirrel or a magpie, as we have lots of them about.
Lovely photos
