Turtle Dove .... the gentle purring sound of summer in the countryside .... although much rarer than a few years ago .

Rock Dove .... because it means I will be in north Scotland .

Rock dove for me. Saw my first at Bempton last week, cracking looking bird.

I quite like wood pigeons and collared doves because they keep our local sparrowhawk fed

We have six - Rock dove or Feral Pigeon, Stock Dove, Collared Dove (from the fifties), Wood Pigeon and the only summer visiting one - the Turtle Dove.

.... except I think you should split the Feral Pigeon which can be found almost anyway (including on the top of my block of flats where they are causing an enormous nuisance) with the truly wild Rock Dove from the northern and western most extremes of the UK where they are a coastal and cliff breeding bird.

When you see a Rock Dove, it is quite obviously very different from the various forms of Feral Pigeon. It is true though that generations of Feral Pigeons have derived from the wild Rock Dove.

I do like the turtle dove which is very attractive and has a gentle coo

Don't forget the foreign species that have turned up too. Mourning Dove and Rufous (Oriental) Turtle Dove.
