why ring a pigeon
A bit mundane talking about pigeons but my resident flock of white doves joined this week by (I presume) a feral pigeon. Noticed it ringed with mauve and yellow tags on one leg and green on the other. Any suggestions as to why someone would go to the trouble?

Thanks info. Was struck by how sleek/fit it looked. Pigeon Association confirm not that unusual for occaisional bird to go astray/take a break or become distracted (by the ladies?). Should have taken a note of the ring initials, however now seems to have continued on its way - upwards and onwards!
