Bempton this weekend

Myself, my old queen, the bald tit and my better half are off to Bempton Cliffs this Saturday.

Any tips on what length lens we might need for good puffin shots?

Is the 400mm really necessary?

Would definitely recommend the 400mm Andrew, was up there last week with Ben (Tormentil) and there were very few Puffins around. Those Ben and myself saw were fairly long range even for a 400mm lens.

Actually I've usually found there to be more Puffins at Flamborough about 10/15 minutes down the road from Bempton.

Plenty of Gannets, Kittiwake, Hering Gulls Fulmars and Jackdaws in range of the 400mm at Bempton though.

Boddie, I was at Bempton this weekend with my lads. There was only one puffin on the cliffs, loads of gannets, a couple of razorbills and some guillemots.
Loads of puffin at and over the sea near the bottom of the cliffs. Had a much better view on the boat trip, arranged through the reserve visitors centre. Loads of spray on the boat so be careful if you go.
