| | | Jay's "antics" I have seen Blackbirds anting before, but never a jay. This one hopped along the path, ate a few ants (plenty about at the moment) and then decided to squat on them, spreading its tail as well as its wings. Thought it looked rather spectacular
Taken through kitchen window so sharpness a bit below par I'm afraid, but I hope you like it |

Its a good way of cleaning the feathers. I'm sure it had no problems ove the last couple of days with ants. They [ants] seem to be flying everywhere yesterday. |

| | | Re: Jay's "antics" Wow! I'd love to see a 'sharp' version, that's a great pic. Do Green Woodies do this or are their methods different? |

| Well they certainly sit in the very same spot eating the ants but I have never seen one anting, but then I'm not an expert.
This has some good citations and refers to Jays: Anting (bird activity) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I find it amazing that it was only first recorded in 1935
Thanks for all your words of encouragement. |
