Red Kites at Gigrin

Just back from a week in Wales, the main purpose being to visit Gigrin Farm to see the red kites feeding and what an awesome sight with up to 100 of these birds plus a few buzzards circling at any one time well within shooting distance. Here are a few I have processed so far

We had heard a lot about it but until you actually visit you dont realise how brilliant it is. It is a shame I dont live nearer - but we have already booked a holiday to go back again next year

Re: Red Kites at Gigrin

I have been to Gigrin Farm twice and witnessed the amazing Red Kite spectacle.

Unfortunately I have never got close to the excellent photos taken by Stan .... well done!

Re: Red Kites at Gigrin

Hi Richard

thanks very much.

Up until a few weeks ago I had never attempted birds in flight apart from the odd gull over the local lakes. Knowing we were going to Gigrin, we joined the Hawk Conservancy Trust in Andover and have been there a number of times to practice during their flying displays and hopefully it has paid off. Mind you at Gigrin we shot over 1500 images between us and quite a number ended up in the bin.

I think though, Gigrin is such a fantastic spectacle, even without the shots it is well worth going just to watch and as I said earlier we are going back next year

Lovely pictures, Richard. Brought back happy memories of my trip there last year. I have two of my pics on the wall above the PC.

Fantastic images, you just have to be pleased with them. I plan on making an effort to see these guys before the summer is out, since I live in wales and am only 1.5 hrs away from it.
