| | | Bird ID (Photograph Included) Hi,
My name's Steve and I've just joined up. I found this site while searching for a bird ID for a photograph I took last week. I've signed up because my interest in wildlife has been sparked by my photography hobby.
I'm not great on bird ID's but am starting to add a few names to my list that I know. This guy though was new to me...
It was taken at a local park beside the pond. Can anyone please identify it?
Cheers,
Steve |

Yep, I agree with scholesy, definitely a young Moorhen, you can just see the emerging "white stripe" down his flanks, and the greenish-yellow legs, plus that yellow spot on the beak - all indicative of the species ....
Nice shot, by the way!

Cheers,
Steve | Spot on with the Moorhen. Cracking photo Steve. If you revisit there you will almost certainly get another chance to photograph the bird again. I would try for the parents also. With the quality of this photo it is obvious that you know how to use your camera and on a sunny day the parent Moorhen is an exceptionally nice bird to take a photograph of.

| | | Re: Bird ID (Photograph Included) Thanks very much John. I appreciate the compliment. I returned again this afternoon and the parents were being quite shy again. I got a few shots but none I'm particularily happy with. I'll be heading back to try again.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Bird ID (Photograph Included) Moorhens are usually more shy than coots, but on the canal today, adult and juvenile both came close for some food. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
