| | Is this a hobby? Hi,
It's REALLY not the best pic, but on the face of it is this a hobby?
I heard a strange 'screechy-screaming' call and looked up - but I couldn't see any birds, then a minute later this went over, slowly. It would flap then glide for several seconds, then flap about twice again, though it was mainly gliding.
I posted a similar thread about a year ago of what the general consensus was of a Hobby that had interrupted a 'party' of a few swifts.
Take care,
Jason |

Thankyou, as I thought then. I suppose the typical 'wings curved back' appearance isn't on display as it was looking for a meal as opposed to darting after one!
rlchew-
Yes, it did cross my mind. |

Richard | Hadn't really taken in the description, which does sound rather Sparrowhawk like. The narrow wings looked rather Hobby like to me, but 'it's a pretty poor photo (no disrespect meant), so won't put any money on this! |

I agree, but when you see a BoP in flight, however far away you still take a few shots for the sake of an ID, just in case they come out OK-ish. The narrow wings that seem to look pointed is why I thought Hobby too. |

| | | Re: Is this a hobby? Flap, flap glide may me think of sparrowhawk. But even from this pic' the wings look too long and narrow. Of the two, I'd go with hobby.
