Not the most glamorous of birds but quite colourful in a subdued manner on close examintation - saw this little family group on the river bank at St Ives and found them appealing - particularly the two half hidden chicks who had so far managed to survive.   
A bit of personal quality time

 Lovely pics Colin. As this is my first 'season' in bird photography I have really enjoyed the last couple of months in particular seeing a variety of baby and juvenile birds. A similar scenario to your Moorhen family this is a shot of a Coot family taken a couple of days ago.

Nice shots Colin. I have them near me but they are very shy and hide in the reeds if they see anyone. |

I rescued a sweet baby Moorhen chick from a cat and returned it to it's mum who was overjoyed at it's return, so lovely!

we have seen some in the drain but they zoom to the side to hide in the over-hanging weeds before I can get my camera focused, they've been cleaning the drain out this week and most of the weed has gone so I hope they're ok as not seen them for a couple of days
