| | | Bald Great tit I have seen this Great tit around for the passed week or so, it looks healthy other than the bald head. Its appearance is improving, it looks as the feathers are growing back. I wonder if anyone can tell me if the damage is due to some sort of mites or is it a result of aggression from other birds possibly mating . Neil |

| | | Re: Bald Great tit We have a blackbird visiting the bird table regularly which, similarly, has a bald area but this time on its chest. I thought it may be a mite problem, added to which there's been so little warm sunshine this year that they are not 'sunbathing'.

| | | Re: Bald Great tit feather loss like this seems to be quite common at the moment. I've read that it can simply be a result of the extra exertion required in mating and rearing young and hence the adult birds have simply become 'run-down'. There may be more to it, of course.

| | | Re: Bald Great tit Good old Bill Oddie showed a few minutes of a very bald bluetit ,and currently there is a robin in my garden looking pretty shook
Could it be lack of food ,and stress in the birds from breeding and rearing young I know it has taken its toll of me

| | | Re: Bald Great tit This is exactly how the blue tit in our garden looks, except ours has no feathers on his head, poor wee thing. There's also a house sparrow with the same look.
