Big feet run in the family

Just wanted to share these photos with you.
It is not very often that you see a coot out of water and I was amazed at their feet.

Obviously junior is following in fathers (or mothers) footsteps.

Good feet for not sinking but look at that spur like toe at the back. Good for fighting...which I've seen them do many a time.

Re: Big feet run in the family

good heavens perhaps that's why you don't see them out of the water very often, they've maybe got a 'foot phobia' and think they're best submerged and out of sight

Yes, I remember they showed a good barney on Springwatch! A sort of Coot all-in, no-holds barred street fight. Apparently, they aren't sharp though and so don't cause much damage.

Here's my offering: "My, what long toes you have grandma...."

Not quite as funky-footed as a Coot though!

Re: Big feet run in the family

Great pics. I have seen them out of water a few times. They can move pretty fast as well, they always bring a smile to my face.

Re: Big feet run in the family

Good grief, no wonder they prefer to be photographed when they're in the water. It must be very embarrassing for them!
