| | | found baby sparrow Hi there, Have just joined the forum. I found a baby sparrow yesterday, have put the little 'un in a box have fashioned a nest from an old (clean) woolly sock, have been feeding him/her cat food, and porridge mixed with lots of water. Baby bird has a few feathers but lots of down so it isn't able to fly, it seems ok as its chirpping lots and last night put the box on a hot water bottle and checked it had enough bedding etc ... seems ok today but am not sure if it is eating enough and I'm not sure how to give it any water. Took baby bird to the vets this morning but they said they couldn't help - have read postings within this forum, and am trying to feed it every 4 hours, but it doesn't seem to want feeding all of the time i.e it won't open its mouth but just sits there. Is there anything else I can do and how do I give it any water?
Many thanks in advance |

| | | Re: found baby sparrow Hiya,
you don't need to give it water, there will be enough moisture in the food.
Try soggy (not wet) go cat as the cat food may give him the squirts.
Give me a call if you want a chat as I have done one or two in my time I will pm my number |

| | Re: found baby sparrow Latest update:..... Discovered an RSPC lady lives around the corner from me, so popped round to ask advice, she came to see baby bird and said she would take him to a bird sanctuary in rochdale. So a happy ending
Thank you owlmomma for your number and the advice.
Will keep checking my garden in case any other baby birds have accidents! |

| | Re: found baby sparrow I'm guessing she must have taken it to the 3 owls? We took a bird there and they're very nice, they'll let you know how the bird does if you phone them. |

| | | Re: found baby sparrow The best thing to do when finding a young chick on the ground is to keep an eye on it from a distance, because nine times out of ten the parents will continue to feed it.

Feel gutted - just got in contact with the bird sanctuary and little baby bird has died. I feel awful, poor little thing! I couldn't have left it on the floor as there are loads of cats around that would have found it and I couldn't have let that happen.
Anyway thanks for everyones advice, its much appreciated! |

| | | Re: found baby sparrow Hi,
so sorry to hear that the little chap didn't make it If there are a lot of cats about then I can understand why you tried to help it. You did the best you could!
