Goldfinch at Breakfast

I saw not only the Two males this morning but the female as well

Just before the rain started again and again and again!

A female arrived just after so will post in a minute

Was pleased with this as taken through the window

Re: Goldfinch at Breakfast

The second shot is a juvenile Goldfinch. Both male and female have the red heads. The two sexes are very similar in colour, just about the only way to tell the difference is that the male red crest goes a bit further behind the eye, not something that's always easy to tell!

Re: Goldfinch at Breakfast

Yay!
As you can see I love Goldies.
I have a cute family of three also, they are always around at about 7am and 8pm.
Funny habits they have.

They seem to be ignoring the nijer seed though.
I may upgrade to a proper feeder (i bought the mini tester feeder from RSPB to see if I had interest)
But seeing as I do have goldies and they do fill their faces on sunflower hearts, perhaps it'd be worth me getting a nice big nijer feeder so that they can get their little heads in there and chow down!

Thanks so much for that info

I need to get my Birds books out

I presumed the juvenille was the female because she was a lot duller in plumage but now come to think of there were two adults then on the feeder at that time so must be a little family? which is even better

Re: Goldfinch at Breakfast

Looks like you're now a popular feeding station for the Goldfinches now. My regular pair have now become a regular foursome, there is a juv and a 3rd adult now aswell.

Re: Goldfinch at Breakfast

It took me 6 months to get goldies into my garden, when I first put niger seeds out they were sill having a go at the thistles and teasels in my local park so werent' interested in a quick snack with us. Now, as I just mentioned we have the regualr pair/4. and they always seem to come at the same times each day.

Re: Goldfinch at Breakfast

Great pics, It's great when they finally arrive in your garden, we've had a similar experience with them and now also have juveniles
