| | | Little Owl I am afraid we lost the Little Owl Yesterday evening.
He was hit by a car a few days ago but seemed to be a little better. It sounds strange but he was ok till he started feeling better and moving around a bit. He appeared to have a head injury and I think them something just shifted when he moved his head and that was too much for him.
He was a darling little fella and a real tryer but he was obviously due to move on to other things.
RIP sweetheart, it was an honour to know you even for such a short time xxxx |

I'll tell you a tale that really affected me. Last year we went to Wales on holiday and one day we were driving to Greenwood forest park along a busy dual-carriageway. On the opposite side of the road we spotted a Barn Owl that had obviously just that second been hit with a car. We could see that it was alive but struggling to reach the pavement, sort of shuffling itself along. The worst thing was a coach was fast heading in its direction, we were going the other way so were quickly past the scene, didn't actually see what happened but knew the Bird had no chance. It was terribly upsetting, I felt awful about it and it really spoilt the day. Anyway later coming back I was dreading seeing what was left but saw nothing. I can only presume that the coach driver slowed down a little to allow it to reach the side. I don't know if it died from its injuries, I like to think it was rescued and looked after but I'll never know for sure. One thing though people like you are very special and make a real difference to Birds like this and I'm sure this is what makes it all worthwhile.
