| | | Strange Bird Song Please help!
Over the passed few weeks I have been aware of an unusual bird song. Now, I know it's very difficult top describe bird calls, but here goes; The call goes :- WeeeEEEEeee, we, we, we, we, we. The call is not unlike a football whistle in tone, the first part of the call lasts for about 1/2 - 3/4 of a second with a series of fast stacato cheeps to follow which seem to be a clipped version of the longer part. The first part of the call builds gently in volume and then tails off followed quickly by the stacato part. The bird is in Taverham nr Norwich. I have not yet seen the bird. I have listened to a bird song CD but have heard nothing like it. |

| | | Re: Strange Bird Song Thank you for your help to all who responded but I don't think we're "cooking on gas" just yet. The song of the tree creeper is too high pitched. The tree creeper would be a soprano to this birds tenor. The song of the Greenfinch is too varied. As a bird song goes it's rather boring, like a young child who only learned the first line of a song and keeps singing it over and over. It always starts with the long (1/2 - 3/4 second) WeeeEEEeee sound, similar to a referee blowing for full time at a footy match. The Willow Warbler is quite close for tone as is the Bullfinch. Two bird enthusiasts who are close friends say they have never heard anything quite like it. One suggestion, it might be a bird which escaped from an aviary. |

| | | Re: Strange Bird Song Is the sound coming from water? Could the sound be likened to a pig squealing? If so it's a water rail. If not, I haven't a clue! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
