| | | Long tailed tit dining al fresco I saw this one deep in a willow tree alongside the River Great Ouse. The bird had just caught a caterpillar and was in the process of stunning and eating it. Some of the shots are not as good as I would like; but it was dark in the tree and there was a lot going on. I found the sequence amusing - I am not a caterpillar
Here he/she (he) has just caught his prey
Now he is stunning it by beating it on the branch
Now he prepares to swallow lunch
On its way
A bit more
Almost there

The irony is that I had just spent a fruitles half hour waiting for a pair of kingfishers to emerge from where they had disappeared on the opposite bank. Some compensation, then.
