| | | collared dove abandoned Have had a pair of collared doves in our garden for a while, nested last year and this. But for the last 3 weeks i've only seen one (sat on nest). I didn't see her/him leave the nest and their was no poo around the nest and I felt like she wasn't eating or being relived by her mate. Her single chick hatched on sunday. I've seen her feeding the chick but she seems to leave it alone for ages (one hour plus) whilst she gets food. Today I've not seen her on the nest at all... has it been abandoned? Has she lost her mate? Should i intervene or not?
many thanks |

many thanks | Hello accessart welcome to the WAB site. No I think it best to leave well alone and let nature carry on its own way, I dont think she has left the chick im sure she will be back to look after it, really speaking it would be a full time task to take on a chick only a few days old and a very hard one at that.Another WAB member probaly will have a different solution b but thats what id do in your position, let us know how things go please . she

It is against the LAW to intervene with a nesting bird. So leave it alone. Read this its very useful The RSPB: Advice |
