An eagle in Berkshire!

Of course that not the case

but I couldn't believe my eyes when looking at BBC Berkshire's nature photo Gallery and there was a picture of a Red Kite labelled as 'an eagle'

I worries me slightly that those at the BBC can't recognise a red kite when they see one and think that you can see an eagle in Berkshire

...........or am I expecting too much?

BTW I have emailed them......

. They should check their ID's before they label something with the wrong name. Could give someone a heart attack.

In Scotland you get the Common Buzzard (the "tourist's eagle") frequently misidentified which you can just about understand .... but a Red Kite? .... I don't think so

I totally agree about the media having no clue about wildlife - it gives you an idea as to how accurate everything else they report is.

As for eagles in Berkshire, I would not have been surprised at all. The immature White-Tailed Eagle hung around N Hampshire over the last winter for at least 3 months. That was only about 10 miles from the Berkshire border. But it seems from the county records Berkshire has not had a Goldie since 1924 or a White-Tailed since 1865!
