| | | Juvenile Sedge or Reed Warbler This is going to be a diificult one. I have no idea, except that it's behaviour was definitely that of a Sedge or Reed Warbler, and there were adult Sedge Warblers in the same spot. I have checked all my ID books and still no wiser.
Can anyone say positively or is it not possible.

| | | Re: Juvenile Sedge or Reed Warbler Reed warbler I'd say, its got an indistinct supercillium (eye stripe) rather than a distinct pale one.

| | | Re: Juvenile Sedge or Reed Warbler Ollie, excellent shot. I think your subject is a adult Reed Warbler. If it were a juv it would have, according to my book, saturated buff along its flanks-Gareth |

| | | Re: Juvenile Sedge or Reed Warbler it's a lovely shot Roger, I know that much!
My first thought was that it's a Whitethroat so it shows how much I know!

Matt | Must admit Matt, that was my first thought but it definitely didn't behave like a Whitethroat. Will wait a while to see if there is any more response.
Thanks

| | | Re: Juvenile Sedge or Reed Warbler I’d go with Reed Warbler.
Plainer colouring, longer tail, less of an eyestripe, less ‘mean’ looking than Sedge.
Under tail lacking white outer tail feathers, more rosey colouring to flanks, and more rosey colouring to the bill than Whitethroat/lesser Whitethroat. |
