| | RE: Crow Behaviour = lack of sleep Hi all,
New to this, so please be kind:P
To put it in context, i live rurally on a farm (small holding) and the exhibited behaviour started about 6 weeks ago?
I have a couple of issues with a (im assuming the male) Crow of a couple with young.
Apart from the fact it dive bombs the cat (which i suspect might not be very healthy for the Crow, knowing my cat)
He (assumption)loves to attack various windows and doors (the glass) from apx 4.30am to 7am every morning! An alarm clock im not impressed with.
I have tried tying plastic bags to all windows and doors the last few days, but to no effect.
Does anyone have any ideas on modifying this behaviour?
Obviously i can shoot it or trap it, but as it is in a couple with a well grown youngster, id rather not.
Thanks

| | | Re: Crow Behaviour = lack of sleep Hello and welcome to the forum!! Its probably attacking its own reflection so it helps to do what you can to make its reflection less clear, you can stick shapes to the inside of the window or more drastic I have heard of people taping a sheet of newspaper to the inside of the window with the light colour of the paper making the reflection less clear to the bird outside they do this for a week or so until the crow breaks the habit it has built up and it seems to help so you could try that? |

| | | Re: Crow Behaviour = lack of sleep Hi Gill,
Thanks for the suggestion. We have tried that to limited affect, although our wily friend does love the option of 20 or so options to glance in.
I suspect i may have to be radical and attempt the "just moved in look" with the newspaper. Although perhaps not on all glass...
Dont want the house looking like its been posted to a successfull Ebay bidder....
Ill go get a tabloid paper, i definitely dont want him getting smarter....
Cheers

Marq | you could try net curtains NOt really my thing but they might work!!! - again for the light colour making the reflection paler and less obvious.
Or what about hanging a mirror in a tree some distance from the house - might have him occupied for longer!!!! |

| | | Re: Crow Behaviour = lack of sleep you could use the same excuse as me, that I don't clean my windows very often so as they dont shine and the birds don't fly into them

Marq | Don't put a mirror in a tree or anywhere else. birds just get distressed fighting off imaginary rivals..
Get some bird of prey cut-outs and hang them inyour windows..
Problem solved. |

| | | Re: Crow Behaviour = lack of sleep We are suffering the same problem as Marq. Interestingly, although we have many crows nesting, it is the same (very distinctive ) one which is actually attacking our glass door. We have even tried leaving our dogs in that room overnight but this crow is no coward. My daughter is quite frightened by it. |

| | | Re: Crow Behaviour = lack of sleep Hi types pestered by window banging crows
My mother complained to me that there have been a few crows attacking her windows - with stones! I'm aware that crows attack their own reflections - but with stones?! Aparently they gather the stones into a small area and then launch them at the window in the early hours.
Any ideas to stop them would be much appreciated. I'll get some more details from said parent tomorrow
Thanks |

Is she sure it's not some yobbish youths " 'avin' a larf " on their way home?? IF it IS crows with stones it could be a very interesting piece of behaviour indeed and would, I suspect, be of interest were it captured on film!
