| | | Re: The Jackdaw and the fat balls Your not on your own as I have had one doing the same for ages. It is very wary though and I never get the chance to get a good photo as it's off as soon as it sees me.
I can only photograph it through my bedroom window so that doesn't help either. Here's my only effort.

I'm now wondering who will be next to try the fat balls... maybe a Magpie |

John | Wow now that I would like to see.... I'll have to keep a look out as we do get magpies visiting but they usually get told off by the wood pigeons (unsurprisingly every other bird has legged it ) |

It's icredible how agile the larger birds are these days
They must be watching the squirrels
Would love to see a jackdaw
never ever seen one |

| | | Re: The Jackdaw and the fat balls I can't believe you haven't seen a Jackdaw in Birmingham. They are everywhere. I lived all around Birmingham and saw them in every house I lived in.
I wonder if you live anywhere near Mosely Bog (seeing as your location is Birmingham in the bog). If it is you have loads around there, especially around Swanhurst Park. You just need to look at the large black birds that are around and look for the differences between Crow & Jackdaw.

The BOG bit is somewhat misleading
I live in YARDLEY which isn't that far away.
The A45 runs across the top of my road so its much more built up round here
i often travel through MOSELY on route to friends in KINGS HEATH
So I'll keep my eyes open
Many Thanks

| | | Re: The Jackdaw and the fat balls So you probably live somewhere near the old Swan Pub area. One of the places I lived at was the Yew Tree, just down the road from there. I also lived in Small Heath and went to school there.
You honestly will have quite a few Jackdaws around you, it's just a case of looking that bit harder and you will eventually see some.

lol | I'd rather birds like Jackdaws were eating our fat balls rather than the swarm of starlings we usually have
But then again a Jay would be even better as we don't get to see many of them |

| | | Re: The Jackdaw and the fat balls I have never had a Jay in any garden I have had. I haven't even seen one fly over one of my gardens.
I have seen loads elsewhere but I would still love to have one in the garden.
