Dippers In Town

Well i couldn't believe my luck yesterday when in the middle of Carlisle next to the Castle on the River Caldew i spotted a dipper,then not one but two quite happily going about there buisness right in the middle of Carlisle only half a mile from the town centre.I have only seen Dipper in the River Lyne gorge in a romote area of Cumbria but only from a distance and not for more then a minute.But yesterday these Dippers didn't seem to care about the noise from the traffic and people.I sat and watched them for a good hour flitting from rock to rock and occaisionaly splashing about in the water and going in and out of what i think was there nest under a large overhanging tree.Cant believe how made up and suprised i was to see dippers in the Town.
By far my favorite bird
I have now been informed that Otters have also been spotted on the Caldew right there in the middle of town,i feel so lucky to live in such a great City.

Went back tonight and within 5 minutes i saw a Dipper again.Im amazed that there here right in the middle of the City i always though they were a Bird you'd only see in the Countryside.
I got some pics but my Camera isnt that good so id be too ebmarresed to put them up on here seeing how everyone seems to have top Camera's on here.

Don't be shy. Not everyone has top of the range cameras some even use their mobile phones.

Nice sighting. I know the Caldew well - used to fish there regularly years ago. Can`t recall ever seeing any Dippers back then (it was a different river at the time, before the banks were cleared etc) but Mink were a problem. Nice to hear Otters have been spotted there, theyre really doing well over in your area by all accounts.
