| | | Re: My First Goldfinch!! well done to get such a good pic, we get them here and think we might have had a couple of young on the niger feeder as they were making an unusual chirriping noise I'd not heard them make before unless they were catching up as they've been absent for a bit apart from the odd one

| | | Re: My First Goldfinch!! Well done BT. You are having a few good days aren't you! I've got quite a few that never seem to leave the feeders this year - spend nearly as much on food for them as I do myself lol All the fledglings are out at the moment too, but they are very welcome bird and really pretty. Nice pic, what next!? |

Congrats on you goldies ive had for nearly 4 months now them coming to the nyger feeder several times a day, where I sit in the summer house the feeder is only about 9 foot away they can see me and hear and the 2 yappy little dogs ive got but they dont take any notice of us , perhaps ours is the only garden about here that give them nyger so that keep them coming. very pretty little bird with a lovely tune. sheila

I regulary get a pair on my food station - sometimes 4 but never more than that. I just need the longer lens to get a decent photo though. |

We've had our first ever goldfinch in the garden around a week and half ago, not shifting very far to date, loving the sunflower hearts and now bringing 4-5 mates. Looks like they stay if loved

I usually feed the birds with the table mix from my local pet shop and a huge bag of peanuts for NUTTY and his pals
and the occasional JAY on route to the oak trees over the back
deffinatly going to get a nyger feeder i tried mixing it in with all the other seed but its just getting left
not to the SPARROW'S taste obviously |

I saw one in the back garden this afternoon, the first time I've seen one here for many weeks. A little later I spotted something I had never seen before - a juvenile Goldfinch! It didn't have the Red, White and Black on the head (just buffy brown) but viewed from the side, the yellow patch on the wing was immediately recognisable. When it then landed on the bird bath I saw the black, yellow and white on the wings and rump.
It's the first time I've ever seen a juvenile, anywhere. It's nice to know the Goldies must be breeding somewhere nearby. |
