I was doing some work upstairs this morning when my wife called for me to come outside urgently.
I was met with a sorry site of a sparrow lying flat on its back and doing nothing but blinking its eyes.
After asking the wife what had happened she said she had heard a loud thud and when she looked down she saw the bird lying on the concrete.
So, as a first aider at work I gave it the once over and couldn't find anything physically wrong so I assumed it had just knocked itself out.
I am now thinking, it's still alive but how the hell do I put a bird into the recovery position.
The only thing I could do was to hold it in my hand and give it some comforting TLC. I just ended up stroking it with one finger and giving it some reassuring words and after about three minutes and in a split second it rolled over, flapped its wings and was gone leaving behind one brown and white gooey mess in the palm of my hand.
I'm just glad I could have helped that little bird through a distressing time but it just goes to show that they are just like some humans that I know.
"The more you try to help them, the more they will s**t all over you".
