| | | Meadow or Tree?
I think this is a Meadow Pipit.
The RSPB book has:
orange/brown legs = Meadow
thin pale pink legs = Tree
Could someone kindly confirm? |

| | | Re: Meadow or Tree? It is indeed a Meadow Pipit, I find the spotting on the flanks useful, on Meadows the spots are the same thickness as the ones on the breast on Tree Pipits they are a lot thinner than the ones on the breast.

| | | Re: Meadow or Tree? Also compare the head pattern, plainer on the meadow and the song of the Tree is also v. different and finishes with 3 distinct notes.
This is a confirmed meadow pipit, the spots come right down the sides of the flanks the same as yours.
PS: That stuff in the RSPB book is so so confusing, what planet are they on?

The song was also helpful - and the lack of trees I suppose??? |

Someone commented that they thought it was a Meadow Pipit but it does look slightly different to those on this thread so I'm even more confused! http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/pi...hp/photo/60338 |

I have seen so many Meadow Pipits in the last week or so, I would almost 100% say this is a tree mainly because of the different look on the head and the absence of spots/markings on the flanks. Compare it to my photo and you can see the head is different, but then again? lol

Thanks Chas. The different head was one of the things that I spotted so maybe it is a Tree Pipit afterall?
I suppose I should also mention that I originally thought it was a Song Thrush | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
