| | Strange Bird Hi, can anyone help?
Today i saw a strange bird It was a starling sized bird with grey/brown bands, a straight beak and a sriking bright red crest going down the back of the neck. It's not a woodpecker!
It was spotted in the Buckinghamshire area, and after countless google searches i quit!, but luckily found your site!
Does anyone know of a bird that pardon the pun. 'Fits the bill'!!
Thanks,
Michelle B. |

Your image is small but looks like either a Cardinal species or a Bulbul species
More likely an escapee of the latter..

| | | Re: Strange Bird Well you certainly found your way round the site quickly, it was about 3 months before I posted a photo. I think you could repost at a larger size, I can't see much detail. Check what you are allowed to post, it needs a couple of read throughs.
I think a candidate that will come will be Hoopoe, but the coulours look wrong.
Welcome to the site, there is some very extensive expertise ( but not with me). |

Mick.. | Yep, I think the colouring looks good for a Red-crested Cardinal, which would be an escape.

| | | Re: Strange Bird Hi All,
What a fantastic forum! Thankyou all for your help, I looked up the Red crested Cardinal, and yes you experts were spot on, thankyou.
I went back to the place where i saw him to get another clearer picture, but he was gone. So the blurry mobile camera shot is all i could get. Where would we be without camera phones!
Thanks again for solving the mystery, i shall be reccommending your site!
Kind regards,
Michelle |
