| | | identifying british birds of prey Please help me identifying british birds of prey. I thought at first that this bird of prey was a Red Kite, but the
tail seems too long and those "cutouts" near the tips of the wings seem unusual.
Sorry the picture isn't brilliant, but difficult to do with a point and shoot camera with its inherent shutter lag. |

| | | re: identifying british birds of prey Yep Red Kite, the ‘cut-outs’ on the trailing edge of the wing are where it is moulting, birds of prey moult there primary and secondary wing feathers one from each wing at a time in order not to affect there fling abilities to much. |

I'm not a bird watcher as you've probably guessed (LOL) but have been
convalecsing after a long spell in hospital, and take the chance to sit
outside in the garden when the weather permits.
Theres almost always a Red Kite soaring above, and several times, upto 3 flying in very close proximity to each other.
I find them fascinating ! |
