Should I be surprised that in Mrs Mallard's family of 11 chicks, 3 of them are yellow (as in photo attached)? I would have expected them all to be brown - and they are all part of the same family - waddling up the garden for bread every day. http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ar...=59922&cat=509 |

Dear cute ducklings
There is a mallard on the canal with three ducklings and they are all different 
There are more and more hybrid mallards every year now.
I'm not sure if a female has a clutch fertilised from one male or from two or more ?? Maybe it is one male and they are just a mixture of hybrids. |

there was a poor female Malard in our field a while ago and there must have been about 5 or 6 males squabbling over her, it has been known that when that happens in the water they can actually drown the female
