| | | Any ideas on what this baby is? Hi,
I've a baby bird that the neighbours cat made the mistake of bringing into our garden today that I just can't identify! We normally have a couple of rescued babies each year, more when I look after some from the local vets I used to work at but I've never had one of these. It may be a dunnock or a robin? Any ideas on the species would be much appreciated. Hope the photos come out ok, I just took a couple of quick ones on my phone. |

I would say you had a little dunnock there. Their beaks are generally more red, where as a robin's is yellow I believe. |

I think it is a Dunnock, looks the wrong shape for a Robin but I could be wrong, not much experience with chicks, should not make a great deal of difference with them both being insectivores. Good luck with the rearing and keep us posted as to which it turns out to be. |

| | | Re: Any ideas on what this baby is? Thanks for the advice. I was leaning toward a dunnock though it's a lot bolder than I'd have expected which made me think it was a robin and it's letting me feed it well too which again seems more like a robin than a dunnock. Hope it does ok and I'll let you know what it turns into! |

| | | Re: Any ideas on what this baby is? That is definately a young Dunnock you have there good luck with it, hopefully the cat didn't puncture it with it's teeth as without antibiotics they rarely survive when this happens |

| | | Re: Any ideas on what this baby is? Thanks, it's already been on a trip to the vets for a long acting antibiotic so I'm hoping that will help. After starting well it's proving to be quite difficult to feed so I'm off for some more supplies to tempt it in a bit. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
