Where was the Camcorder???

Two days ago I was helping Naomi/Tufftie working on her new garden, when low and behold literally there was a Goldcrest on her door step. Just sitting there without a care. So I bent down to check it out to see if it was alright! It seem ok everything in check whilst admiring the sweetest little bird right in front of me. Because it was in the way of her door I decided to have a go of picking it up and placing somewhere out of harms way. I put out my index finger and as i say low and behold the little un jumps up and on to my finger for what about 15 seconds before flying up in to the branches of a tree hanging over head. I mean talk about a golden moment and not having a camera or camcorder to capture the event!!! It was a sweet experience I tell ye, especially since this is one of our smallest birds and also the fact that I have only seen Goldcrests twice in my life. It was so and had me grinning from ear to ear! I just had to share with you. Cheers-Jez!

Wow, Jez

That's a once in a lifetime experience. Do you think it was a youngster..
You really need to keep the camera handy after that. Naomi needs a few bird feeders up around the new garden. You never know what she will get next.

Re: Where was the Camcorder???

She has had a couple of different birds that i have never seen in my garden! 1 being the gold crest which i think was an adult the other a spotted flycatcher one bird I haven't spotted myself down by the her stream! & when she puts the feeders up no doubt she'll nab all of my birds too

Re: Where was the Camcorder???

That was a magical moment.
Reminds me of a time ages ago when I was potting some sweet peas in the back yard. There was a bang as something hit the window above me I looked down to find a goldcrest. I picked it up, fortunately it had only stunned itself, and came round after a couple of minutes in my hand. It flew away. Mind you I think it probably had a bit if a headache. It too was a wonderful experience.

Re: Where was the Camcorder???

I think i'd best get myself some of those window stickers. Can't wait for the feeders to arrive and see what birds i get - so far noticed song thrushes, wood pidgeons, wrens, nuthatches, robins, magpies, a pair of mallards - from Jez's garden, blue tits, great tits, goldcrests, spotted flycatcher and i'm sure there must be loads more. !!!

No chance of that - my garden looked like a rubbish tip to begin with and there is soooo much to do in it Though it is very easy just to sit and watch here - and even better with a glass or two of wine The birds don't seem to fly off here so you can just sit and watch them a few feet away.

Forgot to mention crows, blackbirds and chaffinches too Will have to start up a garden list and when i get my electicity and phone line connected will join BTO's garden birdwatch
