| | Injured Starling - need advice Hi everyone. I rescued a starling from the jaws of my cats mouth this morning, I brought it inside and put it in a (clean) cat carrier and covered with a towel to let it rest for a bit. I came home from work at dinnertime to have a look at the damage. It has damaged one of its wings, I lifted the wing and it is torn underneath where it is attached to the body and there was some blood. Other than than it is walking about and seemed happy enough. I have put some antiseptic cream for children on under the wing, (hope this is ok?). It was flapping the good wing but wont do anything with the injured one. I put it back in the box and it laid on its side and looked like it was dying. I wne tup to check half an hour later and it was fine, little thing was playing dead so i'd leave it alone.
I rang a bird rescure centre and they said bring it to them but I live too far away. They said if I wanted to care for it and I do, i have to sellotape the injured wing to its body so its cant move it and leave it like that for a couple of days.
Anybody any advice on what I should or shouldn't be doing to the poor little birdy? And what do I feed it? |

| | | Re: Injured Starling - need advice Hi. I found an injured starling last week. I rang my local vet and found out they treat 'wildlife' free of charge and they told me to take it to them. Maybe there is a vet local to you (nearer than the bird rescue place) who would do the same?
Like you, I didn't really know what to do to help the little fellow get better. However, I do know that giving any 'human' medication to animals can be really dangerous.
Good luck with what you decide to do. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
