Proud parents - at last!!

I've been watching a pair of swans sitting for the best part of 6 weeks!! Now hatched at last - what a wonderful sight.

The second pic was taken a few days after the hatchings. Swans and cygnets had travelled to a lower pool 20 feet or so below a dam - how did they get the little ones down there??

Aww, gorgeous they are. I think the little ones probably just dropped down after the parents . Good pics.

have you ever seen the clip of the ducks that had nested on the flat roof of a building, not sure where it was, but has been on telly a few times, when they hatched out the parents were on the footpath below calling to them and the poor little things were lined up on the edge of the roof and like lemmimgs were jumping off, luckily passers by had seen what was happening and managed to catch most of them, I think they all survived and they were seen waddling off into the sunset to find water Also we once had a broody hen who decided it would be a good idea to lay her eggs on top of a pile of bales in the barn, we didn't find her straight away and had thought the Fox had got her, when we did we didn't disturb her but kept an eye on things, then one morning we found her on the floor with 6 chicks running about, they'd jumped in excess of 15ft, it's amazing how they will instinctively follow their parents whatever the perils.

Re: Proud parents - at last!!

Glad you like the pics folks - from what Witham has said in particular about chicks following parents whatever the danger it must have been some sight to see the cygnets go over the dam!

Re: Proud parents - at last!!

Great pics Tich well done thanks for reminder must check on our brood see how they are doing if they have survived the neandivals it makes me sick when they can kill such graceful and young birds as the cygnets.
Anyway nice pics well done
