Thumbs up In search of the elusive chiffchaff

I suspect it's a willow warbler but i live in hope, black legs and the song sounded right compared to the one on the RSPB site

Looks good for Chiffchaff- short primary projection + dumpier jizz.

Re: In search of the elusive chiffchaff

Looks good for a Chiffy. Are Chiffchaffs thin on the ground up north then?

Cheers,

Adam

Re: In search of the elusive chiffchaff

not in short supply just short supply for me personally all the websites i look at on their sightings list mention them as being common enough but i haven't seen one until now although i have only been looking this year as i now know what to look for ,i think

Re: In search of the elusive chiffchaff

I wouldn't call them thin on the ground here in the South Pennines. In fact, I'd say they are slowly increasing in numbers.

Regards, Chris

I haven't heard on yet this year, and we usually get them in our garden

Re: In search of the elusive chiffchaff

Plenty about in my neck of the woods (North Staffordshire). Luckily I got some nice pics of them a couple of weeks or so ago - much harder now they've got leaf cover on the trees!!

Your so right. I've now just about given up trying to get shots of them, I just enjoy listening to them as I walk by.

I didn't really think you'd have taken offence at that comment. Your made of sterner stuff than that!

I think I should point out to the others that Ben can't hear Chiffchaffs. He can hear most other birds, but the tone range of that particular bird he unfortunately can't hear.

Re: In search of the elusive chiffchaff

Ok three more in my search for a better pic or at least one any chiffchaffs amongst them

all taken today during lunch half hour, they may well be the same for all i know but were taken at different places and yes i am very lucky to have a place very close to work with an abundant source.today i also saw male bullfinch, whitethroat, sedge warbler,LTT,and i'm sure there was a lesser whitethroat in there somewhere once i've sorted them out
