| | | Help! Another duck Have just found this site and subscribed. It looks very useful and is certainly intersting - I'm still exploring.
Any help in identifying this duck would be appreciated. It seems to have adopted (or been adopted by) a family of mallard (mum, dad and a few youngsters).
It is considerably larger than the mallard and stands tall as in the attached picture - that's a half grown mallard chick in the picture. It is slim and has a flattish, wide-ish duck-like bill rather than the shorter goose-like bill. In the nape, there is a tuft of white feathers. There is a hint of orangey/rusty red in the head; the secondaries have a steel-blue colour; the legs have an orange/yellow tint.

| | | Re: Help! Another duck A warm welcome to WAB Peter, definitely looks likes there is some Indian Runner in it, could possibly be a hybrid, can't say as I'm no expert. There are many hybrid varieties of duck around.

As said your duck is probably related to the indian runner. Most of the domestic ducks resemble mallard in some way. But this isn't supprising as 99% of all domestics are descended from the mallard! |
