A super photo. It shows the stripeyness so well. I usually see something that looks so "Bird-of-Prey" like. If you go to Whitby Museum at Pannett Park, there is a collection of birds eggs with a cuckoo egg in them for a variety of birds. That bird lays a tiny egg, and I think that they imitate a specific bird for each cuckoo that comes here.

I've never seen a cuckoo, and don't even hear them so much these days.

Though I believe that normally the females look more like the males in this country, and that this one is of the rarer Rufous type?

I've never seen a Cuckoo, yet to hear one this year unfortunately, although I know they're about! Great pic btw

Well done, a rare shot. I was lucky enough to see a rufous female Cuckoo, really close a few years back i didn't get the shot the camera was in the bag....but she was beautiful, a definate highlight, a memory that i cherish.
She was eyeing up a Blackcap nest, the male Blackcap was doing his nut.
I was priveledged but didn't get the shot, so treasure what you have achieved

I was lucky enough to see a pair that I had accidentally disturbed fly fairly low across the garden last year, I hadn't realised how slender they were, one was gently calling (not cuckooing) to the other, never even seen one before let alone two so it was a treat as we usually only hear them

many thanks everyone, i thought at first she was a sparrowhawk, only when we watched her strange flight catching the mayflies realised what it was.she was an amazing sight

They tend to like sitting on telephone wires, with their tail stuck upwards. But I haven't seen one for many years.
