House martins house hunting

Most of the houses in our road have high pointed gables that lend themselves to sites for house martin nests. We have three old nests on our house, all of which have collapsed over time.

House martins are now constantly swirling around overhead and beginning to swoop up to investigate the older nest sites all around.

This pair perched on the bricks to examine the old site and seemed to be billing and cooing. I don't know if this was courting behaviour or a means of communicating on the desirability of the site.

Here are some pictures showing this activity. I was pleased to be able to take pictures of static martins - a rarity for me.
