Black and White

Can anyone help me identify a bird?

It's mostly black, with white under the wings and white around the neck. About the size and shape of a black-headed gull, although the most distinctive feature is how it flies - kind of slow beating of the wings with the bird bobbing up and down in flight.

I've seen these mostly around the coast, have been through every bird on RSPB but can't find it. It's not a magpie, and I'm sure it's not a little auk or an oystercatcher either.

Any ideas anyone? This is starting to bug me.

Ahh thanks!! A lapwing it is. The in-flight pictures look very different from on-the-ground pics. Very interesting watching this bird fly.

Hi Garnier and welcome to WAB,
I watched a pair of Lapwings Mobbing a crow which was quite near their nest site two days ago they can turn in the air on a sixpence with those big broad wings, they gave the crow such a hard time that it was glad to go, they were actually hitting it with their feet,
