| | | New visitors Had to share this - on Sunday I had 2 feathered visitors that I had never seen before - a pair of Long-Tailed Tits!
They were so cute. I thought they were young birds that had flown in a tornado or something as they looked so fluffed-up! And oh the tiny little beaks!
I haven't seen them on the feeders yet - do they go to feeders like the other tits do? When I saw my two they were sat amongst the the honeysuckle on the pagoda and were rubbing their beaks on the wood and seemed to be very friendly towards each other. Is that usual behaviour?
Of course, when I got my camera out they flew off and I haven't seen them today, but I hope they will come back soon - sooooo cute!! |

| | | Re: New visitors They are such cute little birds and flit about so quickly amongst the trees etc they often go unoticed, we have seen them on our feeders particularly in the winter when they seem to particularly like fat balls or peanuts but think they prefer to feed in the trees and hedgerows, we've had a few so far this year but last year we had a flock of about 20 or so working their way through the Hawthorn and Blackthorn or hanging upside down in the Silver Birch busily looking for insects etc, we're lucky enough to have pleanty of Gorse, Hawthorn, Blackthorn and a few Brambles around our field and in the area which they love to nest in so hopefully we shall have an increase in numbers again soon. |

| | | Re: New visitors I have them in my garden quite a lot now, and they perch on the fat feeders (and peanut feeders I think) regularly.
Last year they flitted through my garden fairly frequently but didn't stay.
The previous year I had only seen them on the surrounding hills.
So keep filling those feeders. They learn to trust you eventually.
They now sit on branches a few feet away from me, look at me, and carry on with their conversation.

| | | Re: New visitors I get them sometimes on the fat feeders but they are very iregular vistors. they may appear for a few days running and then no sign of them for weeks.
I thik it depends on how severe the weather is and how much natural food is about
